Sunset Country Regional Map

Sunset Country Region

Spanning an area over 60,000 square miles and with over 70,000 freshwater lakes, the Sunset Country Travel Region of Northwest Ontario really is “Canada’s Premier Fishing Destination”. We have earned that reputation with some of North America’s best multi-species fishing opportunities. Catch giant muskie and pike, reel in walleye until your arms are sore or go after big lake or brook trout. Our smallmouth bass fishing is some of the best anywhere and we also have largemouth bass, crappie and perch. Talk about an all-star lineup!

Big game hunters also know us for our spectacular bear, deer and moose hunting. The lodges and resorts in Sunset Country are also second to none! Choose from all-inclusive American Plan packages or rent a housekeeping cabin. For something completely different why not rent a houseboat and fish from there or even more extreme, rent an outpost cabin and “own” a freshwater lake for a week all to yourself! Campers can find private campgrounds or Provincial Parks. The choices are endless.

North of Superior Regional Map

North of Superior Region

Located directly north of incredible Lake Superior, this region of Northwest Ontario offers you access to an endless number of lake and river systems. In these waters you’ll find Ontario’s finest brook trout fishing with potential giants weighing up to 8 pounds. The Nipigon River is the location where the world-record brook trout (14.8 pounds) was caught so you know the pedigree is there. In addition to brookies you can reel in walleye, lake trout, bass and in Lake Superior, salmon!

The North of Superior Region also has incredible moose and bear hunting opportunities if that is what you like to do and in the southern areas, many big whitetail bucks roam through the woods. Your chances at successful bear hunt are likely the highest in this area of Northwest Ontario. There are both road accessible and fly in operations available for you to choose from. Unique to this region is the ability to charter large fishing boats on lake Nipigon and Lake Superior for a “deep sea” like fishing experience. You’ll catch giant salmon and trout and other species like walleye on one of these adventures.
